Despite unprecedent growth in the last decades, the Lithium Ion battery (LIB) technology is only marginally represented in the 12 V domain where lead acid battery (LAB) technology is still predominant. There is therefore a huge opportunity in this market transition to Lithium Ion technology which can bring several advantages compared to LAB. In this session, we will present the various application requirements for low voltage batteries mainly focusing on automotive starter batteries, auxiliary batteries for hybrid, mild hybrid, micro hybrid and full electric vehicles. Battery management system requirements will be reviewed for these applications. NXP is developing innovative solutions focusing on reliability, safety and cost optimization at system level. These solutions will be unveiled during this session as well as the complete chip set used including MCU, SBC and analog front end.
